Conall Morrison is a grassroots activist and chair of the Zero Waste Northwest activist collective in Derry, Ireland. He’s also a sailor and sailing instructor and was skipper in the 2017/18 Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. He recommends the XR website as a great source for learning about activism. Here he shares his thoughts on being an activist:
I don’t really think of myself as an activist. I haven’t really done anything.
I mean nothing that people pay any attention to.
My heroes glue themselves to streets, Stand up and tell the truth in court and they take hammers to the bullet and bombproof glass of the biggest banks in London. They get shot at by mining companies, hundreds of them are losing their homes, thousands, millions, billions to come.
What must be done?
Head out of the sand… thousands of millions of ostriches, not one looking.
Are they too scared? can they not see?
Are they too distracted? Maybe they enjoy being distracted?
Are the solutions difficult to see? Too difficult to contemplate?
Are we being peddled non-solutions? Either Tory or Labour? DUP or Sinn Fein?
Green Tech? EVs, Net Zero, More consumption?
Pure Bull.
I just ordered my copy of Who’s Afraid of Degrowth Graphic Novel by Céline Keller, and we even had a friendly conversation by email.
Humans got us into this mess and it’s the Humanity in people that’s going to lead the way out.
Tell the Truth
Act Now
Decide Together
Peace, Love, Rage,
And even hugs.
