Our May showcase focused on (Universal) Basic Income. UBI is a concept which proposes that a regular payment is made by the state to every individual resident regardless of circumstances, without any means test or work requirement. It would be enough to live a frugal but decent life without additional income and it would be paid from cradle to grave.
There are many people opposed to the idea of a UBI, including those on the Left. But our speakers, Anne Ryan from Basic Income Ireland and Patrick Brown from UBI Lab NI tackled all the misconceptions about UBI and were able to show that, in fact, the benefits far outweigh any social or economic arguments against the idea.
